Perhaps make a structured guide about how to make your own videos?

Things i'd like to see in a web 2.0 food cooking site:

1. Ability to aggregate recipes from multiple cooking sites (recipezaar, allrecipes, food network, etc.) into one comprehensive search. I literally spend hours deciding which one is best.

2. Ability to search for food videos with the added option of having recipes (optionally) appearing on the side as a ways in order to address peoples concerns with variation. I feel members can benefit from the experience of videos acting as teaching people the "techniques" while the traditional approach of looking up recipes can act to address peoples tastes.

3. "hybrid search of recipes" like when i usually look at recipes, i look at things like # of ingredients i am already likely to have and kinda the complexity factor of the recipe (not to mention addditional tools and spices) which are typically barriers of why people don't cook in general.

4. an attached affiliate program relating to spices and cook ware can perhaps be implemented in order to give members an idea of what equipment and spices they need to buy (also...it would give you an incentive to develop this site more!).

5. Videos on the side are not expandeable to make it the full screen and are hard for my 21 year old eyes to see.

6. Wikipedia style variations of certain recipes in order to develop a baseline of the recipe and than a discussion for issues on variation (like: is it too salty? too sugary? etc.?)

just my 2 cents.

(also check out the seyret video component from joomla). that would be a cool addition in functionality
I'm a fan of wineandfoodtube they have 1000's of food and wine videos and lots from the food network.

Oh yeah, i just discovered that when you want to add videos from other sites
(such as from sites such as chow, videojug, etc.) other than youtube and google video:

When Adding video,

go to the section:

"Add a video to google video or youtube"

than on that video sites page, paste in their "embed code" and your good to go.

note: Just be sure to add a description.
Make it fun and outrageous. We have so many serious foodie sites, we do need to combine resources but foodies need a u-tude too! I was attracted to this site because I want something different than all others.
Toni, you made some excellent suggestions. I developed a Wok Star Kit and teach wok cooking techniques rather than "recipes" but people are so used to following recipes, it's difficult for them to think outside the box. So your suggestion to show techniques with variations is GREAT. My pet peeve is recipes that require a ton of ingredients and multiple methods and steps, that's so off putting, who can do that for dinner?

How about grading the "recipes" so they are EASY or HARD? No one wants to find they're half way into watching the video and discover it's not for them. What about reviewers who give points based on whether dish is EASY to accomplish or HARD?

The point that miniapplecocoacook makes is spot on - overwhelming sites for foodies and not enough for us. I've been on many foodie sites and their problem is they are such purists, they don't even cook! Yet, they'll still use non-stick pans/woks knowing all the health hazards related to non-stick use. People want easy-to-accomplish meals that are delicious and fun to make.
I need a place where We can discuss the real problems about the job in the kitchen's restaurant.
